Band ‘Foster The People’ Lift Spirits…And Paint Brushes in Montclair

Have you ever heard of the band ‘Foster the People‘?

Did you know that they have a community service bus called the ‘Do Good Bus‘?

Did you know that in October the bus stopped at the Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Montclair?

That’s right, our ReStore was just one of many stops along the band’s nation-wide trek to stirring public awareness of local community service projects.  At our ReStore, Foster The People fans contributed what we call ‘sweat equity’ in painting the inside of the ReStore and assisting in the relocation of 3.5 tons of building materials.  The Pomona Valley Habitat Young Professionals Network thanks the indie-pop trio and we look forward to the next time the bus rolls into town.

Faith Into Action, Switchfoot Style!

Some say music moves mountains, others say music can move lives.  John Forman, front man of the Grammy award-winning rock band Switchfoot says that music moves him to put on gloves, lift a hammer and put into action the words and melodies he  tours the world singing along side his band mates.

“There are a lot of great organizations doing great things for people, but one of the things I love about Habitat is it’s a way for people to connect with the heart of what we’re singing about, which is hope. A lot of organizations need money or need skill. Habitat will teach you how to swing a hammer, how to put up siding and put in sinks. I love that. With Habitat, you can directly connect with the organization with your sweat rather than pocket.” – John Forman of Switchfoot

We are proud to call John Foreman a brother through Habitat for Humanity.

Look for Switchfoot’s new album hitting stores and iTunes on September 27th.

Mission Skid Row: Spreading God’s Love Through the ‘Hammer’

Our young professionals at Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity continue to spread God’s love  in areas that don’t require construction tools.

Yesterday, HYPN Chair Gina Gonzalez put faith into action and ventured to Skid Row on her own with a bag of clothes and belts from her closet. Even without the physical presence of a hammer, she attempted to place a dent in the harsh reality of homelessness for a group of females standing outside of the Union Rescue Mission.
